Casiotone For The Painfully Alone

Lastfm:
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone (CFTPA) is the beats-and-keys solo project of singer, songwriter and Chicago resident, Owen Ashworth. Drawing heavy influence from traditional Americana as well as 80’s synth pop and commercial hip hop, the music of CFTPA is a curious mix of austere character studies and playful electronic programming.

Simple, simple, simple. Sounds like music made by someone with a steady job who comes home and messes around on his keyboard all weekend long. Someone creative enough to make songs you can actually enjoy.

Bomb The Music Industry!

Lastfm:
Bomb the Music Industry! (commonly abbreviated as BtMI!) is a musical collective originally from Baldwin, Nassau County, New York. They write, produce, record, and distribute all of their music under the leadership of songwriter and producer Jeff Rosenstock.
They are known for their DIY punk ethic, embodied in such actions such as distributing six albums worth of their own material for free on their website, and offering free stencils and paint for fans to create their own T-shirts. They also offer their fans a chance to perform on stage if they learn a song and bring their instrument to the show. Beginning in April 2009, the band will only play all-ages shows with ticket prices of $10 or less. Rosenstock and several other contributors were previously members of The Arrogant Sons of Bitches. As that band was breaking up, Rosenstock recorded the first Bomb The Music Industry! song, “Sweet Home Cananada” using his PowerBook’s built-in microphone. “I wrote that song and put it out to see if anybody wanted it. That was how it started, people showed interest and I like recording stuff.” Bomb the Music Industry! plays a blend of several musical styles anchored in ska and hardcore punk. The influences go deeper than ska and punk, however, as studio experimentation, synth-pop, and dc hardcore all pop up in the mix. Rosenstock says bands such as Harvey Danger and Neutral Milk Hotel are as much an influence as evidenced by tracks such as “This Graceless Planet” (an adaptation of a song by We Versus The Shark into the musical aesthetic of Bomb the Music Industry!)

Styrofoam

Not really a new or unknown artist or anything. I really wanted to post more than just acoustic stuff on here and he is one of my favorite electronic artists. I came to know him through a Tyler Shields video that included one of his better songs "Couches in Alleys" (ft. Death Cab's Ben Gibbard) a few years back and find myself occasionally putting his music on.

Per Lastfm:
Styrofoam (Arne Van Petegem) is a Belgian one man glitch electronica project on the independent record label Nettwerk.

In his earlier days, his composings embraced an ambient and minimal angle - which still can be heard in his later works - and were generally less song-structured. Gradually, the music of Styrofoam became more and more influenced by indietronica, indiepop and emohiphop, which resulted in the album Nothing’s Lost, that gave him an international recognition.

Good Old War

Per Lastfm:

Good Old War is made up of Keith Goodwin, Daniel Schwartz, and Tim Arnold.
The band was started after Days Away (the old band of Keith and Tim) went on hiatus.
They recorded some demos for free in a late night session at a recording studio.
They have played with Anthony Green on a short stint of dates along the east coast and also at the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in Texas, as Anthony’s backing band. They are currently on Sargent House, a label which also serves as a management company featuring RX Bandits, These Arms are Snakes and Tera Melos. They will also be playing a few east coast dates with the Dear Hunter in April, along with a show at the Trocadero Theatre’s Balcony in late March. The band will begin recording their debut album in May of 2008 for a release later this fall.

My favorite song from them called "Coney Island".
