Inglorious Basterds

Though I respect Tarantino's work, I usually find his movies over hyped and pretty mediocre (pulp fiction excluded). With that said, this would be one of his "above average" pieces. The dialogue was funny, the story good, and the acting/directing just fine. Over all it was what most Tarantino films are, entertaining. Definitely worth seeing. 6/10

The Avett Brothers

Per Lastfm:

The Avett Brothers are a non-traditional bluegrass band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. The two brothers, Seth and Scott, formed the group after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. More recently, they have been joined by cellist Joe Kwon. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as “post civil-war modern rock”, or by other reviewers as “grungegrass”. For a long time the group eschewed labels, feeling that “none would do the music justice.” Ironically the Avetts signed to Columbia Records on Independence Day 2008 to record their fifth album with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin. It’s simply left up to each person to extract his or her own account from the Avetts’ music.”

Their live performances, generally at smaller venues, showcase their use of three-part harmony and southern rock feel, and are admired for being intense, energetic, and soulful. The Avetts have been picking up steam opening for Dave Matthews Band and playing SXSW and Newport Folk Festival.

Saw these guys a year or two ago.. you could tell they genuinely love playing their music.

Sherlock Holmes

What I can pretty much say is that it was exactly what I thought it would be. Good acting. Good production. Fairly good story. I was happy with the ending, it was not totally predictable. Robert Downey Jr. just cant do any wrong these days. And I have always been a Jude Law fan as well. Worth seeing for sure.

7/10

It Might Get Loud

Just finished up watching this. Over all I thought it was pretty good. Although Jimmy Page is really the only musician of the three I am really a big fan of, it was interesting to hear the other two's thoughts. Jack White provided a lot of insight into his style, and gave me a lot of reasons to respect him. "The Edge" as well I guess though im not a fan of u2 at all. Over all if youre a fan of either three of these musicians or just like music based documentaries its definitely worth a watch. 6/10.

Paul Baribeau

Per Lastfm.
Paul Baribeau’s warm, witty sounds and gnarly beard bring something truly unique and interesting to the folk-punk table. With such well-known friends as Matty Pop Chart and Kimya Dawson, the South Central Michigan native collaborates often, but has two of his own beautiful solo records out on Plan-It-X.

One of my favorite musicians. I find myself putting him on more often than not. If you like folk and punk this is probably an artist you will end up liking.

Away We Go

Watched this last night. I was expecting some sappy love movie and it had its fair share of odd moments but over all I thought it was a pretty good movie. For a movie that I cant really relate to on a personal level it did a good job of getting me interested in what was happening to the characters. 7/10.
